HGSS Careers Mission Statement
We want to challenge students to be the best version of themselves. To aspire and aim high for their career goals, whilst encouraging them to work hard to build a strong network from which to gain the experience they need to navigate towards their chosen path. Challenge, Aspire, Navigate.
Challenge. Aspire. Navigate.
We believe that preparation for the world of work is not an add‑on — it is a fundamental part of education. Whether students plan to progress to further study, higher education, apprenticeships or employment, our aim is to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and guidance to make informed, ambitious choices.
Our Commitment to Students and Families
We are committed to providing high-quality careers guidance for all students. Our careers programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring students receive effective and up-to-date careers education. A dedicated Careers Adviser provides impartial advice and guidance, helping students explore future pathways, training opportunities and career options. Students and parents/carers can also access Unifrog, which provides valuable careers information, Labour Market Information (LMI), and guidance on a wide range of education, training and employment routes.
Students' experience:
- Employer engagement through talks, assemblies and workplace visits
- Enterprise and Curriculum linked initiatives that show how subjects connect to real-world roles, incorporating problem‑solving and teamwork
- High-quality work experience in Year 12, designed to provide genuine industry insight and a strong reference
- Unifrog activities that help students track skills, record experiences and explore pathways
- Support for employability skills, including communication, teamwork, resilience and professionalism
We know that employers increasingly value skills, experience and character alongside qualifications. Our programme helps students develop these attributes early and apply them confidently in future applications.
Sixth Form: Preparing for Life Beyond School
Our Sixth Form careers enrichment programme prepares students for the next stage of their journey—whether that is university, apprenticeships or entering the workplace. Students benefit from:
- UCAS workshops
- Apprenticeship guidance
- Sessions on independent living and adult life
- A revitalised Year 12 Work Experience programme offering meaningful, personalised placements
This ensures every student leaves HGSS with confidence, clarity and a strong sense of direction.
