Reading for Purpose
At our school, we emphasise reading for purpose by developing both fluency and comprehension skills, ensuring students can confidently engage with texts across all subjects. Through NGRT (New Group Reading Test) assessments, we accurately measure reading ages, allowing us to track progress and identify any support needed. When necessary, targeted interventions are put in place to help students strengthen their skills, ensuring every learner can access, understand, and analyse information effectively.
LRC Lessons at HGSS
In our weekly LRC (Learning Resource Centre) lessons in KS3, students have access to a fully stocked library of a wide range of genres. Students can choose books suited to their ability and interests, and can also use ePlatform to access a vast selection of eBooks and audiobooks. Students will discuss their reading each week with their teacher and will be set individual targets for their reading at home. Also, as part of these lessons, students will access a program called Bedrock to help improve their vocabulary and grammar.
